Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Have I searched the tickets before posting? Yes
Have I read the documentation before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Joomla! version: 2.5.4
PHP version: 5.3.13
MySQL version: 5.1.62
Host: gws-host.com
Admin Tools version: 2.2.5

Description of my issue:

1) 2.5.6 Does not show in the CTRL panel ('all extensions are up to date')
2) 2.5.6 is Not discovered in 'manage' (purged/discovered etc...hehe who wrote the instructions on the forum? ;-) )
3) Other upgrades aka JCE 2.1.3 are shown in 'manage" so is 'Akeebabackup" and that my friend I can update on each server through the updater
4) Download ID is entered
5) Admin tools is able to upgrade Joomla (installed on purpose Joomla 2.5.2 and upgraded flawless to 2.5.4 through Admin Tools

However upgrade of Admin Tools through live update (besides the first 2 mentioned issues throws me also:
6)Error live update:
"Unable to open archive
"Extracting the update package failed. Please try updating the extension manually."

Permissions no issue/capacity no issue. As stated other extensions work well with upgrade. Upgrade through the extension manager works as well

I experience this on all servers with our default settings (handler suPHP and curl enabled) as well as on a server where we are testing Mod_Ruid2 (which combines the security of suPHP / gives the user ownership as well with the speed of Mod_PHP + allows for eaccellerator which does not work with suPHP). Handler here is DSO (owner with Mod_Ruid2 is 'user')

Previous upgrades on both types of servers no issues with Live update. Nothing changed on server level besides all upgraded from PHP 5.3.10 to 5.3.13

Ideas?

Short update: refreshing the live updater shows why the "unable archive" is happening:

before refreshing (see link!):
Installed version 2.2.5
Latest version 2.2.6
Latest release date 2012-05-26
Direct download URL https://www.akeebabackup.com/downloads/admin-tools/admintools-2-2-6/com_admintools-2-2-6-pro-zip.html
Information Release notes • Read more

after refresh:

Installed version 2.2.5
Latest version 2.2.6
Latest release date 2012-05-26
Direct download URL https://www.akeebabackup.com/downloads/admin-tools/admintools-2-2-6/com_admintools-2-2-6-pro-zip.html?dlid=xxxxxxxxxxx

and it installs (!) / still not showing (also not after refresh) in CTRL panel as available update

Thought this might help

First, please DO NOT share your Download ID in the public ticket system. Thanks :)

Regarding your question, the initial problem (not being able to upgrade) was due to the fact that after the first time you enter the Download ID you are supposed to go to Live Update and click on the Refresh Update Information button which you didn't do. FYI, we have put that in our instructions for your convenience. Alternatively, you can wait over 6 hours which is probably what happened in the meantime, that's why you were able to upgrade.

I am not clear what "still not showing (also not after refresh) in CTRL panel as available update" means. If you mean that Joomla!'s own extensions updater does not display the update and/or is not able to install the update this is known. Joomla!'s extensions updater is currently very limited and not suitable for commercial components. That's why we clearly warn you not to use it with our Professional versions (that is, if you read our release announcements before upgrading ;) ) and we have already stopped supporting it in Akeeba Backup - with the rest of our software to follow suit in the near future.
