Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)? manuel page 56
Have I searched the tickets before posting? yes
Have I read the documentation before posting (which pages?)? manuel page 56
Joomla! version: 2.5.4
PHP version: 5.2.4-2ubuntu5.23
MySQL version: 5.1.41-3ubuntu12.10
Host: pcextreme
Admin Tools version: 2.5.4

Description of my issue:
I read in the manuel about the /tmp directory needs 777 and a htaccess. I tried to place the tmp directory out of the root of the site and altered the path in the global Joomla configuration. Site seems to work, but the php file scanner stops scanning. (counts to 6 sec server response, then back to 1 and stays there).

Just thought you might want to know.

Admin Tools 2.2.5 addresses this issue. Please note that the version you state having installed (2.5.4) is obviously incorrect. The latest released version of Admin Tools is just 2.2.5.

Do you already have 2.2.5 and this issue still occurs?

yes.

So I put the tmp in the root again and did the 777 and htaccess thing to get it going again. So its ok for now. I was surprised that placing tmp out of the root did not work out for the file scanner. Just thought you should know.

Is it possible that your tmp directory was also out of your open_basedir set of directories, making it unwritable by PHP? That would explain this behaviour.
