Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Have I searched the tickets before posting? Yes
Have I read the documentation before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Joomla! version: 1.7.3
PHP version: 5.2.12
MySQL version: 5.0.91
Host: iPage
Admin Tools version: 2.1.4

Description of my issue:

Dear Nicholas

I have got Admin Tools pro version 2.1.4 installed on Joomla 1.7.3 on a new site at iPage.

I want to test an upgrade to Joomla 2.5

The Joomla upgrade site advises that "Internal Server Error" can be experienced when doing this upgrade on some shared host environments (my site is hosted at iPage.com) and advises user to use your Admin Tools component to perform the upgrade. Which is why I purchase Admin Tools in the first place.

When I select Components / Admintools the Admin Tools Dashboard displays the following warning message:

"Could not download Joomla! update information. Please visit http://www.joomla.org/download.html to make sure that you have the latest version installed on your site."

The Icon for Joomla Core under "Upgrade" shows as "unknown."

The Admin Tools icon shows that an update is available. When I try to download this update I get the following error messages :

JFolder: :files: Path is not a folder. Path: /hermes/bosweb/web116/b1165/ipg.moorsoftcouk/dpa_jml_17/tmp/com_admintools_update
JInstaller: :Install: Cannot find Joomla XML setup file

(The path to the tmp folder appears to be correct. And yes - I have refreshed the Download ID but this still happens.)

Can you please advise as to how to proceed from here to effect an upgrade from 1.7.3 to the latest stable version of Joomla 2.5 ? Do you need any other information about the environment ?

One other item of information which may be relevant (as it's mentioned in your troubleshooting guide) is that I am unable to enable FTP in my Joomla Global config. (I have a support ticket out with iPage on this - Getting JFTP bad response errors.)

Many thanks for any help you can offer.

You have to contact your host and ask them to open their firewall for connections over TCP port 80 to the joomlacode.org site (IP address: 206.123.111.164). When they do that, please go back to Admin Tools and click on the Joomla! update status icon, then click on Refresh update information. It should tell you that an update is available.

Only after you upgrade your site to Joomla! 2.5 should you try to upgrade Admin Tools. Admin Tools 2.2.x is compatible only with Joomla! 1.5 and 2.5, not with 1.6 and 1.7.

WARNING: Joomla! 1.7 and 2.5 have some subtle differences. Some third party extensions may misbehave, potentially bringing your site down. Always take a backup of your site before updating it. If your site crashes, you will be able to restore it to its previous condition from the backup so that you can update all of your extensions before retrying the update.

Regarding setting up your FTP, please take a look at the "Enable FTP" section of our installation troubleshooting page (forget the other instructions, you only need the section about FTP). If you follow these instructions, you will be able to enable FTP on your Joomla! site.
