Start by renaming a file. If on Joomla! 1.5, rename plugins/system/admintools.php to admintools.php.bak. If you are on J! 2.5 rename plugins/system/admintools/admintools.php to admintools.php.bak

Then follow the second set of instructions first. After that, follow the first set of instructions. And that should do the trick.

Try unpublishing the "System - System Restore Points" plugin. You will have to install Akeeba Backup again afterwards.

You're welcome, Dave! It would sure help if Joomla! for once did take my advice on the matter, accept my patch (or create one of their own) so we'd never have to have this conversation. But since this is unlikely to happen, I am happy I could help with the troubleshooting :)

This is a bit more tricky (it is yet another bug in Joomla! I proposed a patch for and it was rejected, only for a half measure to be applied in its stead).

Start by clearing the entries in the jos_session table, where jos_ is the able name prefix for your site. Then clear your browser's cookies and cache, close your browser, reopen it and log back in to your site.

do i tick all and empty or drop

nicholas

You can select only that table and click on Truncate (NOT Drop - drop deletes the table completely and screws up your site for good)

The only other thing I can think of is stuck ACLs. You can try the instructions midway through this page: https://www.akeebabackup.com/documentation/troubleshooter/abbrokesite.html

It seems that this is a Joomla! 2.5.4 bug. If you agree, I can make this ticket private and you can send me some information which will allow me to debug this directly on your site. I've spent the last 8 hours of my life answering posts of people with the same problem as you. Even though it is not related to my software, I'd like all the help I can get to replicate, identify and solve it. Let's just say that I don't expect a swift resolution from Joomla! itself, especially since this is a problem which can't be easily reproduced (it never happened when people were testing the pre-release Joomla! 2.5.4 packages).

Hi Nicholas,
Yes by all means, i am very impressed with your software and agree this is a Joomla bug,i have an up to date backup but i want to learn about these problems and bugs.

The Joomla! bug is now well known and will be fixed in a new Joomla! release. There is nothing for me to do at this point. If you read the link I posted, you'll see how it's triggered: you have to give the public group administrator login information. When you do that, hell breaks loose with 2.5.4. I am just waiting for 2.5.5 like you guys :)

Thanks Nicholas for your help i know this is frustrating getting tickets that are not your problem.
For your and thers information i found this link
http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=624&t=707494&p=2780986#p2780986
it says
Finally, a solution that worked for me: I replaced the controller.php with the version from 2.5.3 and also replacing line 30 of helper.php (path: administrator/includes) from
if (!$user->authorise('core.login.admin')) {
to
if ($user->get('guest')) {

I just changed the controller.php not line 30 in helper.php as the code snippet was different than in my helper.php.
This worked for me.

Even though that workaround works, it is the equivalent of ripping out the front door of your house and replacing it with drapes because the lock doesn't work very well. I wouldn't recommend it for anything other than a temporary, insecure measure.
