Admin Tools version: (unknown)

Description of my issue:
We installed Admin Tools on our customers Joomla web site.
This morning we got a message :
Hello,

An updated version of Admin Tools is available.
Version: 2.2.2
Release date: 2012-03-21
Stability: Stable

together with a link to the web site to perform the update.
We tried to do the update and it failed - one of the reasons being that ftp needed to be enabled in the web site control panel.

We did this and the site went off line - the error message :
No configuration file found and no installation code available. Exiting...

The whole web site is down, how do I recover it. ?

Hello David,

it sounds like you either deleted the configuration.php file from your site's root, or its permissions made it unreadable. If it exists, try giving it 0644 permissions and retry.

on inspection the current configuration.php file has 0bytes.!
I've contacted our hosting company to see if they can restore yesterdays file for us.
I guess this is where Akeeba Backup comes into its own ! How do I restore the backup if I can't access the admin panel.?
Can I simply put back the original configuration.php file that was created at the first install of Joomla ?

If you want to restore just a single file, you have to be slightly creative :)

First, download your backup archive to your local PC (how-to | video). Then, using Akeeba eXtract Wizard, extract it. Take the file you want and upload it to your server.

If you want to restore your entire site, you can follow our restoration instructions or watch our video on how to do it. Tip: instead of downloading/uploading your backup archive, you can always move or copy the backup archive from where it is back to your site's root, upload kickstart.php and proceed with the restoration. This is usually much faster than downloading/uploading the backup archive.
