Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)? Didn't find any about it.
Have I searched the tickets before posting? Yes.
Have I read the documentation before posting (which pages?)? Already know docs. Have specific question
Joomla! version: 1.7.5
PHP version: 5.3.8
MySQL version: 5.0.92-community
Host: dedicated on SoftLayer
Admin Tools version: 2.1.14 pro

Description of my issue:

I would like to update my Joomla from 1.7.5 to 2.5, and as I have disabled allow_url_fopen on my server for improved security, the best way to accomplish this would be to use Admin Tools (some say that THE best way to do any joomla update is through admin tools, and I agree).

My problem is that 2.2.0 is not supported on 1.7.5. I haven't tried to install it as I'm afraid of errors, but it would be really good if at least 2.2.0 is supported on 1.7.5 === only for the purpose of updating joomla to 2.5 ===.

So, can I install 2.2.0 on 1.7.5 in order to take advantage of the joomla update feature? Or 2.2.0 will not work on my 1.7.5?

Thank you.

Hello Jonathan,

If you only intend to use it for upgrading, installing AT 2.2.0 on J! 1.7.5 is tested and supported. What I have neither tested nor support is using its security features on Joomla! 1.7.5.

Hi Nicholas.

Super fast as always. Thank you a lot.
It will help me through many many updates.

As I do my updates always on a clone site, not on live site (I reload the entire site with the updated version with Akeeba Backup, in the wee hours of the night), should I disable security features?

Thank's again.

Yes, it's a good idea to have your shields down while doing upgrade work.

Sorry to say that, but 2.2.0 doesn't find joomla 2.5 as the latest version.
It tells me I already have the latest version (1.7.5).
I tried extension manager purge cache, and admin tools clean temp dir, and even site => maintenance => clear cache and purge expired cache, but Admin Tools doesn't see 2.5 as an avaliable update.

Try using 2.2.a3, which shouldn't even see the 1.7.5 release.

It worked fine.

To anyone who will use Admin Tools to update j1.7 to j2.5, remember to do the following:
extensions => extension manager => database => fix.

Also, some extensions might need to be updated after Joolma update, to avoid errors.

Thank's again.

Jonathan.
