Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Have I searched the tickets before posting? Yes
Have I read the documentation before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Joomla! version: (1.5.22)
PHP version: (unknown)
MySQL version: (unknown)
Host: (hostgator)
Admin Tools version: (unknown)

Description of my issue:
-Downloaded AdminTools Pro this morning.
-Backup system with Akeebabackup Pro.
-Ran Admintools update Joomla (1.5.22 -> 1.5.25)
-Failed with "Could not upload media/system/css/mootree.css" error.
-Searched archives and found "permissions issue" thread about changing every file/directory permission to 777.
-Changed default permissions to 777
-Ran "Fix Permissions"
-Site now unavailable with "500 Internal Server" error.
-Files and directories appear intact (with new 777 permissions) from what I can see via FTP
-HELP!

I believe that the 777 permissions caused this error. Many servers are set up to throw an Internal Server Error when PHP files with 0777 permissions are encountered. They easiest way around this is to contact your hosting company and ask them to do the following:
- Change the ownership of all files/folders in your web root to your FTP user
- Permissions of files to 0644
- Permissions of folders to 0755
Then log in to the back-end of your site and set up Joomla!'s FTP options in Global Configurations. And then retry upgrading to 1.5.25.

Ok, I have the site restored with the folders set at 755 and files at 644 - thanks!

However, the upgrade is still failing with the "Could not upload media/system/css/mootree.css" error.

The ftp options are set as:
Enable FTP: Yes
FTP Host: 127.0.0.1
FTP Port: 21
the rest of the fields are blank

Thanks for your quick reply by the way!

LoL! Our posts crossed paths :D The obvious issues are those which are harder to fix. I'm glad you got it fixed :)
