hello
Admintools was installed on my site and it worked perfectly.
I had, for various reasons to need to re-installed my site.
So I deleted all the files from my site.
I had a backup (.Jpa) of my website . Admintools was not installed in this backup.
I used kickstart to restore my files and all went well and I installed admintools.
A fanstastique thing appeared: admintools has kept the configuration that there was before .
How is that possible, when I erased all files?

Hi Nick,

Admin Tools' configuration is stored in the database, namely all the jos_admintools_* table, where jos_ is the database table prefix for your site. If you don't uninstall the component (which will remove those tables), the tables stay in the database and are not replaced during a new installation of Admin Tools. In other words, restoring your site deleted the files, not the tables, and when you reinstalled Admin Tools, it found your old configuration tables and kept them. Wham! Your configuration is kept ;)

Ah, here's the misconception: restoring a site does not delete any tables. It will overwrite the tables which already exist, but those tables which are in the database and not in the backup will be left intact. This is a very useful trick when you're trying to do partial backups and restorations, e.g. in order to update a site without having to overwrite all data (such as users, subscriptions and items sold on your e-shop component). That's why Admin Tools' tables were not removed when you restored your site.
