Joomla! Version: Joomla! 1.5.22 Stable [ senu takaa ama woi ] 04-November-2010 18:00 GMT
Admin Tools version: 2.1.11

Description of my issue:

I have made several attempts to update my Joomla 1.5.22 install
and get continued errors. I have tried the manual install and Admin Tools. With admin tools I get ERROR:
Could not upload CHANGELOG.php

I have checked permission on /TMP directory and avaialable disc space. Still, unable to do update. The message on the Admin update states: "Reinstall 1.5.25, but my system info still reflects a 1.5.22 install.

Replying to my own topic as this problem may relate to the same problem. I renewed my Admin Tools sub for 2.1.14 and attempted to upload file.
Admin Tools stated I needed to FTP, but then errored, stating install manually, I attempted to install manually and I get additional error: "Unable to find install package"

Stumped. Anyone have suggestions?

You seem to have a big ownership/permissions issue. The proper workaround is to ask your host to change the ownership of all of your files in your site's root so that they are owned by your site's FTP users and then enable Joomla!'s FTP options in the Global Configuration. From that point it is very easy to update your site.

Alternatively, you can download the latest Joomla! 1.5.25 installation package from http://www.joomla.org/download.html and extract it locally. Remove the installation directory and upload the remainder folders and files to your site. This will upgrade your Joomla! 1.5 site to 1.5.25. Please note that you cannot upgrade Joomla! 1.5 by using the Extensions Installer as you seem to have tried.

Thank you for your response. I went back after failing to get either the Joomla update or the Admin Tools update to work, and decided to disable the FTP setting on the Core Joomla Configuration. I was able to successfully install the Joomla 1.5.25 update via Akeeba Admin Tools and install the latest
latest Admin Tools manually. Turning FTP OFF solved the problem.
(I double-checked to make sure I was using correct ID and password)

I am a little confused now. Didn't you say in the other thread that your files and folders are owned by your user (i.e. the same user used by FTP)? Was that the other way around?

The files were all owned by me (owner of account), and the same user of the ftp account. Reviewing many of the files and directories did not show any ownership or permission issues.
So it didn't make sense that disabling (Joomla Config) the FTP would solve the problem. When I was using Admin Tools, it stated that FTP was the only way to proceed.

While I don't understand why it worked, disabling the FTP option allowed me to work all the functions I need with Joomla and Akeeba Admin Tools, allowing me to do all the updates needed.

I was wondering if having both FTP enabled on Joomla system config
AND trying to FTP with Admin Tools could have created some kind of conflict?

(Sorry about the 'double-post', I do appreciate the wonderful products and support of Akeeba!!)

The only way this would make sense is that your server is using suPHP, but even in this case FTP should not have a problem (unless, of course, your host disabled loopback FTP connections, i.e. you can't connect from your site to your site using FTP).
