Description of my issue: I have restored my site from an Akeeba backup to a new domain. I am not able to login to the backend as it keeps going to the index page as if it does not recognise my secret url set in Admin Tools. I have read other articles but found nothing that has helped so far. I hope you can assist, there is 9 years worth of data on the site.

Hello Thierry,

Don't worry, these problems are easy to work around! Follow these instructions to temporarily disable Admin Tools' plugin, get access to your site and reset the admin secret word: https://www.akeebabackup.com/documentation/troubleshooter/atwafissues.html

If this doesn't work, also try renaming .htaccess to htaccess.bak. In this case, as soon as you get into your site go to Components, Admin Tools, .htaccess Maker and expand the System Configuration pane. In the "Host name for HTTPS requests (without https://)" and "Host name for HTTP requests (without http://)" enter the domain name of your site, e.g. www.example.com. Then click on Save and Create .htaccess to create a new .htaccess for your new site.

If you get stuck somewhere, post back with what you tried and what happens and I'll help you.

Thank you very much for the response. Unfortunately, I have had no joy. Tasks carried out are:
changed main.php to main-disable.php - backend access no joy.
renamed .htaccess to htaccess.bak - backend access no joy.
Deleted complete site and started from scratch with restored backup and repeated the steps above with no joy.
Panic is setting in!

This is not an Admin Tools issue. If it were, it would be resolved either by renaming the plugin's main.php file or removing/renaming the .htaccess file. If you want to, I can take a look in case I can spot the cause of the problem. For this to happen, please send me a Personal Message (I am user "nicholas") with the following information:
- A link back to this thread so that I know what you're talking about
- URL to your (new) site
- FTP connection details (hostname, username, password)
- Super Administrator username/password
- If possible, details on accessing your hosting control panel in case I need to set something up in the database
