Since Akeeba Subscriptions 2.0.a2 all emails are sent in the user's preferred language or, if the user has not specified one, the site's default language. In order to force everything to be in English, you have the following options:
- Remove the French translation files for the two plugins which send out the emails. Downside: as soon as you upgrade Akeeba Backup, the lang files will get back.
- Create a language override, as per the documentation, for those two plugins in the French language, using the English text of the emails instead of the French ones.
- Ask your users to change their default language by visiting their user profile. This is actually the best choice, as each user should be receiving emails in his preferred language.

Who is the user who owns the subscription (user_id column in your jos_akeebasubs_subsciptions table) for which you are receiving the notification?

Also, which exact version of Joomla! are you using?
