Description of my issue:
All of a sudden, I am getting blank pages when trying to access my site either through the front page or through the backend. I called my host tech support last night and they tracked it down to the .htaccess file.

The weird thing is that this is the same .htaccess file I have been using for 6 weeks or so with no issue. I removed the .htaccess file and everything worked fine so I created a new one with Admintools. Everything worked fine for 5 hours, then all of a sudden, I started getting white screens again. Any suggestions?

Sorry, I hit reply before finishing my thought!

Since this takes a while to show up, I do not know how to test the .htaccess settings to see which one is causing the problem.

Hi! Settings in .htaccess files are applied instantly. If something in the .htaccess caused the site not to load, your site would throw a 500 Internal Server Error or a blank page immediately, not after 5 hours, let alone after 6 weeks!! This problem sounds like a hosting configuration issue or a misbehaving extension on your site.

Just try using the stock Joomla! .htaccess (rename the htaccess.txt file from a Joomla! installation ZIP file to .htaccess) for at least 24 hours. If it throws a blank page, you have a hosting problem. If it doesn't throw a blank page, try using Admin Tools' .htaccess file for another day. If that does throw an error, something is odd in the way your host handles .htaccess files.

However, if you are using a CDN in front of your site, please try disabling it before trying to apply any .htaccess file. A CDN may be caching old copies of the output of your site for an indefinite time period which could possibly "mask" the problem for a number of hours. In this case, it does make sense that it took 5 hours to see the blank pages. Also, in this case, having the problem manifest itself after 6 weeks could probably be attributed to a server upgrade or server settings tweak performed by your host.
