Akeeba Backup 3.1.1 3.1.2 is just released

We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of Akeeba Backup Core and Akeeba Backup Professional 3.1.1 3.1.2. This is the first second maintenance release of the 3.1 series of our full site backup software for Joomla! Websites, fixing a number of bugs discovered after the 3.1 Stable release and adding new features.
Version 3.1.1 was replaced with 3.1.2 shortly after release. The reason is a cosmetic bug in 3.1.1 which caused a big warning box to appear on several hosts. No need to panic, if you don't see the big warning box you can safely continue using 3.1.1 as no other changes were made in the updated release.
All users are advised to immediately upgrade their software using the integrated update feature or by downloading the new installation package and installing it on their site, without uninstalling the existing version of the component.

One of the most important changes in this release is that we are now offering a single ZIP package which can be used to upgrade or install the component, the administrator backup notification icon module and the Akeeba Backup Lazy Plugin on Joomla! 1.5 and 1.6. As a result, you only need to download and install a single package. No more complex procedures and issues arising from version mismatches between the component, the module and the plugin. As you have guessed by now, our software is fully compatible with the upcoming Joomla! 1.6 release. If you install it on a Joomla! 1.6 site it will automatically detect that and run in native Joomla! 1.6 mode.

As always, Akeeba Backup Core is available free of charge from our downloads section. You can find its documentation in PDF format for off-line reading in the downloads section, or you can view it on-line. All users are strongly advised to read our Quick Start Guide, available as a PDF file from our downloads section.

This is a brief list of changes between Akeeba Backup 3.1.1 and the previous release, 3.1 Stable.

Changes

  • Updated integrated restoration engine (Pro release), fixing some bugs on servers using open_basedir restrictions and some minor bugs on some servers when using the FTP mode.

  • Marked all AJAX return documents as "text/plain" to avoid them being corrupt by antivirus/firewall software

  • Added warning for AVG antivirus on backup . Important! You must disable AVG's Link Checker feature for Akeeba Backup to work at all.

  • Width of the fields in Parameters fixed to avoid horizontal scrolling

  • ABI: Database restoration now uses time limits instead of the arcane query and size limits

Bug fixes

  • SECURITY: Minimum access level would have no effect

  • Fatal errors under some circumstances due to misdetection of Joomla! 1.6

  • 3.1 wouldn't run on Joomla! 1.6

  • Notice thrown by the installation script

  • The JSON API backup function was broken

  • Warnings from archiver engines would appear as empty strings in the log

  • Backup records having the same filename would all appear as "OK", when only the latest should be OK and the other should be Obsolete

  • Fixed AES-128 in CBC encryption mode bugs in the JSON API model

  • Password fields were rendered as plain text edit boxes; changed them to proper type

  • Dumping database tables with millions of rows could fail due to lack of SQL_BIG_SELECTS support in the native MySQL dump engine

  • Invisible notice thrown in Files & Directories Exclusion

  • Akeeba Backup would crash when Nooku Content is installed due to a collision with how NC's Database proxy works

  • A nonexistent CSS was attempting to load in Akeeba Backup Professional
