Akeeba Backup 3.0.a2 (Alpha 2) is out. The new version fixes low and medium priority bugs discovered after the release of the first alpha (3.0.a1) version last week. All users are advised to upgrade as soon as possible.

We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of Akeeba Backup Core 3.0.a2 and Akeeba Backup Professional 3.0.a2. This version addresses a number of issues discovered after the release of 3.0.a1 last week. You can download Akeeba Backup Core for free in our download section. If you are not an English speaker, you may want to take a look at the translations as well. If you get stuck, you're welcome to post to ourĀ  Free Support Forum (a free user registration is, of course, required to post to the forum).

If you are a subscriber to the Professional edition, you can download the update through the My Downloads section after logging in. If you are not a subscriber yet, you may want to find out more about it and become one. This way you'll also be helping us raise the necessary funds to continue the development of this software.

Have you seen our new native tools?

At the same time we launched our new site, we have also released new versions of our Native Tools.

The new Akeeba Remote Control 2.5 replaces JoomlaPack Remote and delivers some much needed bug fixes. If you don't already know what it is, it is a desktop application which allows you to backup all of your sites with a single click, right from your desktop.

Akeeba eXtract Wizard 2.5 replaces JoomlaPack eXtract and delivers some stability enhancements over the previous release. If you don't already know and use it, it's a desktop application which allows you to extract ZIP and JPA archives created by Akeeba Backup or JoomlaPack. It is extremely useful when, say, Kickstart won't work with your site.

Finally, we have a new member in our software family, Akeeba SiteDiff. This handy utility compares two backup archives and reports which files have been added, removed, modified or stayed the same. You can use it to compare daily backups and spot any potential problems. For example, if new PHP files have been uploaded to your server or existing files have been modified, without you knowing anything about it, you have been probably hacked and should take immediate measures. Remember, someone can break into your site today and vandalize it tomorrow. Use SiteDiff to catch them in the act and Akeeba Backup to have a fallback plan in case disaster strikes.

Changelog

This is the short list of changes since Akeeba Backup 3.0.a1:

Bug fixes

  • Warnings thrown on hosts where native PHP JSON implementation isn't available
  • When removing the active profile, the configuration of the default profile (#1) was replaced with the values from the removed profile
  • Initial configuration of the default profile is blank, leading to a failed first backup
  • Extended INSERTs would ignore the packet size
  • Reverted to single part archives for ZIP and JPA formats
  • Running out of disk space or having permissions problems would incorrectly lead to reporting a complete backup. Fixed to throw a descriptive error instead.
  • Ever-changing files (e.g. logs) would cause backup archive corruption.
  • Administrator module had a broken translation
  • Removing the component before the administration module would lead to inoperable site back-end
  • Notices were thrown from the INI parser
  • Multiple DB backup was broken
  • DirectFTP was not working because AEUtilTempfiles::createRegisterTempFile was broken in 3.0.a1
  • Using split archives would cause a failure in Akeeba Backup Professional 3.0.a1.1
Modifications
  • Now it's possible to select the jQuery and jQuery UI sources
  • Minor tweaks in ABI's database code
