Kickstart 3.3.2 just released

We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of Akeeba Kickstart 3.3.2, a minor bugfix and improvements release. This release addresses minor issues which were affecting all previous releases, up to and including 3.3.1.

The most major change we've made is that now Kickstart is self-documenting. We had observed that the vast majority of support requests received for Kickstart could have been avoided if the user had spent two minutes reading the documentation or the troubleshooting wizard pages. Unfortunately, most users were oblivious even to the existence of those pages. So, starting with this release, Kickstart will point you to the proper documentation page on every step of the process. Coupled with similar changes done in Akeeba Backup 3.3.4 and Akeeba Backup Installer 3.3.4, our goal is to have you never, ever, stuck starting at your screen not knowing what to do next – or how to solve a pesky problem that emerged.

The second major change we made is the integration of an update check inside Kickstart. Many problems reported by users were fixed a few releases ago, but the users had not upgraded. This is understandable, as we can't expect you to monitor our releases every day. So, from this release, Kickstart will check if there's an update to itself available when it starts and notify you in case of an available update.

Besides that we have done two minor changes in the code. Previous versions of Kickstart would change the site root's permissions to 0755 indiscriminately. Not any more. Furthermore, when using the FTP mode, Kickstart would always change the permissions of the directories. With this release, this is only made when the directory would be otherwise unwritable, leading to much better permissions handling and, as a result, better security for you.

As always, you can download Akeeba Kickstart from our Downloads page without any charge.
