Admin Tools 2.1.5 released, allows upgrade from Joomla! 1.6 to 1.7.
We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of Admin Tools 2.1.5 which addresses issues and feature requests pertaining to Joomla! 1.7.
Many of our users complained that the official Joomla! 1.6 to Joomla! 1.7 update method (using the update feature of Joomla! itself) was unreliable and prone to breakage, especially on shared hosts. After investigation, we discovered that the problem lies in the CPU limits imposed by the majority of shared and VPS hosting providers. Unfortunately, that makes upgrading Joomla! 1.6 to 1.7 impossible on such environments. True to our social responsibility blog post from February, we took it to rectify this situation. Admin Tools (both Core and Professional) 2.1.5 now support true one-click Joomla! 1.6 to 1.7 update which doesn't crash. Just install Admin Tools, go to Components, Admin Tools and click on the top left icon (the Joomla! core status icon). If you have Joomla! 1.6.0 to 1.6.4, first update to Joomla! 1.6.6. Otherwise, just click on the "Update to Joomla! 1.7.0", then click on Start Update and sit back. Five minutes later your site will be properly updated to Joomla! 1.7.0. It's that easy. And if you have Akeeba Backup installed, a backup will be taken before update so if anything breaks you can roll back to Joomla! 1.6. Yes, it's that easy!
The Professional edition also includes two feature updates. First, the Project Honeypot HTTP:BL integration is now stand-alone and does not require activating the Bad Behaviour (BB) integration after concerns that BB causes too much false positives. Moreover, we have addressed most of the BB false positives by eliminating the requirement for an Accept HTTP header after discovering that many modern browsers omit it, especially from POST requests and/or when using HTTPS.
