Akeeba Backup 3.2.1 (bugfix release) just published
We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of Akeeba Backup 3.2.1 bugfix release. This release fixes some medium to high priority bugs affecting Akeeba Backup 3.2 and earlier, as well as add ACL support on all Joomla! versions.
This release fixes an issue with some hosts, where the entire server filesystem was attempted to be backed up. On top of that, we have addressed a number of mostly cosmetic minor bugs and improved the stability of the software on a number of uncommon configurations. We are also especially pleased to announce the availability of full blown ACL support for Akeeba Backup's back-end! On Joomla! 1.5 you can select what each user can do, allowing you to -for example- set up backup operators, i.e. users who can only perform a backup but not configure or download backup archives. We have also documented the ACL settings for Joomla! 1.6, allowing users of the newest Joomla! release to take advantage of its native ACL system.
Moreover we can now boast that our component supports four Joomla!-based CMS platforms: Joomla! 1.5, Joomla! 1.6, Molajo and Nooku Server. No matter which platform you use, you can always rest assured that Akeeba Backup will be working natively and provide you with the its trademark smooth backup, restoration and server migration experience possible.
We need your feedback! If you haven't done so already, please take 10 minutes to fill out our user survey. Your feedback will allow us to improve our software and services.
As always, Akeeba Backup Core is available free of charge from our downloads section. You can find its documentation in PDF format for off-line reading in the downloads section, or you can view it on-line. All users are strongly advised to read our Quick Start Guide, available as a PDF file from our downloads section.
If you want the most powerful features, such as storing your backup archives on the cloud (Amazon S3, DropBox, CloudFiles, Microsoft Windows Azure), transfer them to a different server by FTP/FTPS, exclude extensions with a single click, apply powerful filters and have an integrated restoration feature, it's time to Go Professional. Subscriptions start at 40€ and give you access to free upgrades for a whole year, while allowing you to install and use the software on an unlimited number of domains and continue to do so even after the expiration of your subscription.

Changelog
+
NEW Automatically exclude awstats and cgi-bin directories as they're read-only on most hosts, causing restoration woes
+
NEW Auto-exclude the logs directory contents. It is used on Plesk hosts to store Apache logs and it's unwritable, making restoration impossible
+ NEW ACL for back-end backup under Joomla! 1.5 (Akeeba Backup already supports Joomla! 1.6 ACLs through the Component Parameters since 3.1.5)

MINOR CHANGE Removed the timeout bar animation because it was eating up a lot of CPU time and slowing down the browser
~
MINOR CHANGE Made MySQLi the default database engine during restoration
# CRITICAL The ZipArchiver engine would create partial archives
# CRITICAL The AKLazy plugin would misfire due to the way its temporary variables were being stored
# CRITICAL Akeeba Backup would try to backup the entire server filesystem on some hosts due to the PlatformLibraries filters going berserk. The filter was deactivated to mitigate this issue.
# CRITICAL Migrating between different MySQL servers may fail because some hosts set them up without MyISAM support. ENGINE=MyISAM and TYPE=MyISAM are now removed automatically. Do note that this issue also affects the latest XAMPP releases on which its developers, for an unknown reason, have removed MyISAM support from the bundled MySQL server.
#
HIGH Would crash under Joomla! 1.6 if system debug was enabled (thanks Ervin!)
#
HIGH Akeeba Backup would crash if the user selected to send email after front-end backup completion if the returned mailer object was not an object type
#
HIGH Migrating between different MySQL servers may fail because some hosts set them up without support for all index types. USING BTREE and USING HASH are now removed automatically from index definitions.
# LOW File downloads would fail on Internet Explorer and hosts using GZip output buffering
#
LOW Toolbar links were missing index.php in the Control Panel
# LOW ABI: Notice thrown because ABIText::_() wasn't declared as a static method
# LOW The installation package would include the plg_jpremote plugin's source files even though they were never installed
