Akeeba Backup 8.4.0 for Joomla! 3.9 and 3.10 was released on September 23rd, 2024.
As part of our Security Extended Support for our Joomla! 3 software, we have just released Akeeba Backup version 8.4.0 for Joomla! 3.
This version is only meant to be used on sites built on Joomla! 3.9 and 3.10, and with PHP versions 7.2 to 8.1 inclusive. Being a Security Extended Support version you can only find it on our Compatibility page.
This is a back-port of select features and changes which have been implemented in Akeeba Backup for Joomla! 4 and 5 over the last year. If you are stuck with an old Joomla! 3 site it will help you keep your site safer until you are ready to upgrade to Joomla! 5.
We still provide support for our Joomla! 3 software and we will keep doing so until at least August 2025.
Upgrading to Joomla! 4 and 5
Before starting your upgrade to Joomla! 4, please read about the steps you should follow to get rid of some cruft your site might have accumulated over the years.
Upgrading to Joomla! 4 requires a migration to Akeeba Backup 9. It's simple, and our software guides you through it.
Upgrading to Joomla! 5 from that point is easy. Make sure you have at least PHP 8.1, then simply upgrade to Joomla! 5; the current version of Akeeba Backup 9 is compatible with Joomla! 4.2 to 5.2 inclusive and PHP versions 7.4 to 8.3 inclusive (note that Joomla! 5 itself requires PHP 8.1 or later).
