It is NOT recommended to set up this kind of scheduled task as it does carry an infinitesimal, if only theoretical, security risk on Joomla! 5.1.0 or later. This scheduled task was developed mostly for use in our development sites where the fairly frequent change of update sources tends to lead to problems with Joomla! Update. We include it in case someone has a niche use case we haven't thought about.

You are recommended to use a scheduled task of the Joomla! Update Notification type (shipped with Joomla itself), or a third party site monitoring software or service such as Akeeba Panopticon. Retrieving update information at least once a day will reduce the likelihood of having update issues with your sites which would require using Reset Joomla! Update feature to address.
