Push notifications through the browser's Push API. If you're using a compatible browser you will get notifications about the backup start, end and warnings in your browser even for backups running outside of the browser (frontend backup URL, JSON API, Scheduled Tasks, …).
ANGIE for Joomla: reset session and cache options in Site Setup. When transferring a site to a new server your existing session and cache settings may not be valid. For example, if you were using a Redis or Memcached server which is not available on the new server. This would make it impossible to log into your restored site. The Site Setup page now gives you a toggle which can reset Joomla's session and cache settings to their default values.
Support for ShowOn to conditionally show options in the Configuration page. Options whose availability depends on the setting of another option will now remain hidden by default and re-appear when the conditions to display them are met. For example, when setting up Amazon S3 you will not be shown the Region selection if you choose to use v2 signatures which do not use the Region.
Bug fixes and minor improvements. Please take a look at the CHANGELOG below.
Akeeba Backup version 9 will only run on Joomla 4. If you still have a Joomla 3 site, don't worry! Akeeba Backup 8 will still be maintained and receive support from the release of Joomla 3.10 on August 17th, 2021 up to August 17th, 2023. Do note that Akeeba Backup 8 will no longer receive major new features. These will only be implemented on Akeeba Backup 9.
Also note that starting August 17th, 2021 we no longer support Akeeba Backup 8 on Joomla except for the use case of upgrading from Joomla 3 and with the sole intent of updating it to Akeeba Backup 9.
Please consult our Compatibility page. It explains our version support policy and lists which versions of our software are compatible with which versions of Joomla and PHP.
