Support for files and archives over 2GiB. This feature only applies when extracting archives created with Akeeba Backup for Joomla 8.3.0 and later 8.x versions, Akeeba Backup for Joomla 9.6.0 and later versions, or Akeeba Solo and Akeeba Backup for WordPress versions 7.9.0 and later versions. This feature requires 64-bit PHP versions to work correctly.
Improved font legibility. The default font has been optimised to be more legible across different devices.
PHP 8 compatibility for the Hybrid, FTP, and SFTP file write modes. The FTP and SFTP engines were not fully compatible with PHP 8. They have now been changed to achieve this level of compatibility.
The default write mode is now “Direct”. The Hybrid, FTP, and SFTP write modes were written at a time when many hosts were using Apache and its mod_php to run sites, creating the ‘permissions Hell’ situations these features tried to work around. Over the better part of the last decade hosts have moved to using PHP FastCGI Process Manager (PHP-FPM), thus alleviating the problem, making these write modes redundant. Having the default mode set to Hybrid misled users into thinking they must always provide their FTP information to restore backups. This is not the case, hence switching to the Direct mode by default.
