Admin Tools 7.2.0 Stable

Released on: 2022-12-04 23:33 CST

What's new?

Requires Joomla 4.2 and PHP 7.4 or later. We have dropped support for earlier versions of Joomla and PHP to do the preliminary work necessary for compatibility with Joomla 5.0, with a target release date of October 2023. According to our collected usage statistics Joomla 4.0, 4.1 and PHP versions 7.2, 7.3 make up for less than 1.5% of our users.

You can now choose User Notes category while saving the IP used during sign-up. In the past these user notes did not have a category, therefore ending up as Uncategorised. Since Joomla 4.0 it is possible to have categories for User Notes. Combining Joomla 4's feature and our update it is now possible to set up a specific User Notes category just for the sing-up IP notes to easily group and filter them.

Removed PHP version warnings. This is now included in Joomla itself.. Nearly 8 years ago we started displaying warnings about your PHP version when it was entering maintenance mode (only security updates issued for one year) and when it was about to become or had already become End of Life (no updates, not even for security). To our delight, this helped our clients plan for PHP upgrades and resulted in their sites using recent, actively maintained PHP versions. Starting with Joomla 3.7, the Joomla project itself started doing the same, having seen the overwhelmingly positive impact these warnings had to our mutual users. In Joomla 3.10 and beyond Joomla's warnings about PHP versions are essentially identical to ours. Therefore, there is no longer a reason for us to include these warnings in our software.

Removed the PHP Easter Eggs option from the .htaccess Maker and similar features. PHP Easter Eggs were special URL parameters which would result in PHP returning image data which could be used to infer the PHP version your site was using, making it a low-level security concern. Starting with PHP 5.5 they were disabled in PHP itself. It's been a long time since we last supported affected PHP versions, meaning that these .htaccess Maker, NginX Conf Maker, and Web.Config Maker features no longer did anything useful. Therefore, we removed them.

Password Protect Administrator: improve compatibility with Apache 2.2 and 2.4. We have tweaked the .htaccess code generated by this feature to better support both stable branches of the Apache web server even in some edge cases where Apache 2.4 would have the legacy authentication module disabled.

Changed all Control Panel warnings to much more compact DETAILS elements. The original intention of all warning and error messages appearing in the Control Panel page was to show you a brief description of the detected issue and have an obviously clickable element to reveal additional information. Due to various restrictions in HTML and CSS this wasn't possible to do in a universally operable, fully accessible manner — until October 2022 when finally all major browsers support the DETAILS element (the last holdout was Safari). Ten years later we can finally present you the messages in the way we originally intended.
