LoginGuard is now included in Joomla 4.2

The new Joomla core Multi-factor Authentication feature is, in fact, just a renamed version of Akeeba LoginGuard. It was contributed by our company to Joomla. You no longer need to install LoginGuard to Joomla — the Multi–factor Authentication is built in!

The Akeeba LoginGuard package version 7.0 has a dual purpose:

• Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) configuration migration. By installing this package all of your users' LoginGuard MFA options will be transferred to the format used by Joomla's MFA feature. The old LoginGuard component and plugins will be uninstalled and the old LoginGuard MFA options cleared. From your users' perspective nothing seems to have changed, just the interface for the MFA is ever so slightly different.
• Distribute the two authentication plugins which were not accepted for inclusion in Joomla itself. Joomla has a policy of not accepting features for inclusion in its core distribution if said features depend on third party services. As a result the Code by push message and Code by text plugins could not be included in Joomla itself because they rely on the third party PushBullet and SMSAPI services respectively. Akeeba LoginGuard 7 only includes these two plugins which couldn't be included in Joomla itself. You will need to enable and configure these two plugins – their settings are NOT transferred from the previous versions.

Now that Multi-factor Authentication is part of Joomla we consider LoginGuard End-of-Life. We do not plan on publishing any further updates to the PushBullet and SMSAPI plugins. If you have feature requests for the Multi-factor Authentication please do NOT contact us directly; it's not up to us anymore. You will need to direct all your feature requests, support requests and other enquiries to the Joomla project.

END OF LIFE NOTICE

We consider Akeeba LoginGuard to be End of Life as of August 17th, 2022 on all previously supported platforms.

We kindly ask its users to upgrade to Joomla 4.2, install Akeeba LoginGuard 7 (which migrates everything to Joomla's built-in Multi-factor Authentication) and then uninstall the Akeeba LoginGuard 7 package.

WE WILL NOT BE PROVIDING ANY FURTHER UPDATES TO AKEEBA LOGINGUARD. USE JOOMLA'S MULTI-FACTOR AUTHENTICATION. WE WILL NOT PROVIDE ANY UPDATED UPGRADE PATHS IN THE FUTURE. UPGRADE TODAY, BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE.
