Akeeba Backup for Joomla! 6.2.0 Stable

Released on: 2018-09-04 08:19 CDT

What's new

Support for DreamObjects' new US East cluster. DreamObjects has changed the location of its servers. Our code has been updated to reflect the new endpoints in use now.

Removed OneDrive for Business support. Unfortunately Microsoft discontinued the API we used to introduce this feature a few months ago. Their new API is rate limited which makes it impractical for uploading backup archives.

Automatic use of IAM role credentials in EC2 instances. Akeeba Backup will not automatically make use of the provisioned temporary Amazon S3 credentials when running inside an Amazon EC2 instance with an attached IAM Role. No need for you to configure S3 access and secret keys. It obviously only works for sites hosted in EC2 instances and only if the IAM Role of the EC2 instance provides S3 access to the bucket you are writing to.

Option to delete everything before restoring a backup archive. Please read the documentation before enabling and using it.. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS (and disabled by default). When using the integrated restoration you can ask it to delete everything before restoring the backup. WATCH OUT! This will delete EVERYTHING, even files and folders which do not belong to your site and/or are not part of your backup. Do not use this unless you know what you are doing and you are ready to accept full responsibility of what will happen.

Bug fixes. We have addressed several issues. Please consult the CHANGELOG.

Joomla! 3.4 or later

We only support Joomla! 3.4 or later, including 3.5, 3.6, 3.7 and 3.8. We strongly advise you to run the latest available version of Joomla! for security reasons. Older versions of Joomla! have known major security issues which are being actively exploited to hack sites.

HEADS UP! We will be dropping support for Joomla! 3.4, 3.5 and 3.6 in the near future.

PHP 5.4.0 or any later 5.x/7.x version is required

Support for PHP 5.3 has been discontinued. PHP 5.3 has been end of life since August 2014 and widely considered a security risk, unfit for production sites. Our software requires PHP 5.4 or later and is compatible with PHP 5.4, 5.5, 5.6, 7.0, 7.1 and 7.2. We strongly recommend using PHP 5.6 or 7.2.

We'd like to remind you that Joomla! 3.4 does NOT support PHP 7. PHP 7 is only supported by Joomla! 3.5.0 and later versions.

HEADS UP! We will be dropping support for PHP 5.4 and 5.5 in the near future.

New features

  • Option to delete everything before restoring a backup archive. Please read the documentation before enabling and using it.
  • Support for DreamObjects' new US East cluster
  • Use automatically provisioned temporary Amazon S3 credentials when running inside an Amazon EC2 instance with an attached IAM Role
